Mary-Kate Olsen was born on June 13, 1986. Her father, David Olsen, was a mortgage banker and her mother, Jerny Olsen, was a manager. Mary-Kate and her twin sister Ashley have become some of the most popular women in America. The sisters made their acting debut in 1987 when they were just 9 months old, playing Michelle Tanner in the family comedy Full House. The series continued for eight more years. During this time, the Olsen twins' careers took off.
At the age of 12, the girls starred in various feature films as well as TV series for ABC. In 1995, the debut film was released with Mary-Kate Olsen and her sister Two: Me and My Shadow.
In the fall of 2004, Mary-Kate and Ashley set out to attend New York University. Soon Mary-Kate was examined at a rehabilitation center for anorexia. In the wake of Mary-Kate's health rumors, the twins released their next feature-length film, Instant of New York (2004).
In 2005, the sisters acquired shares in Dualstar, taking full control of the management. During this time, Mary-Kate parted ways with her Greek fiance, Stavros Niarchos III. The breakup coupled with the changes to Dualstar caused Mary-Kate to leave school. The actress moved back to California to focus on her business venture.
The following year, the sisters began appearing in an advertising campaign for Badgley Mischka. They also contributed to the fashion world by launching their own clothing line called Row. In 2007, the twins announced the opening of another clothing line, which was named after their brother and sister - Elizabeth and James.
In 2011, the world met a new film with Mary-Kate Olsen Terribly Handsome, in which the actress played the role of Kendra.
