March 26, 1930, Sverdlovsk, USSR (Ukraine) - December 5, 1972, Moscow, USSR (Russia) - Soviet writer-storyteller, screenwriter and playwright.

Father held the post of director of the State Green Building Trust "Goszelenstroy" of the RSFSR, mother was an accountant. In 1949, he entered the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Faculty of Japanese, but due to his great myopia, he was not taken to the Japanese department, but taken to the Mongolian. After studying at the institute for 2 years, he was expelled for academic failure. In 1951, Gennady Mikhailovich entered the Krupskaya Pedagogical Institute. After graduating from the institute (1956), he worked for three years as a teacher-teacher in a boarding school. Already at this time, Tsyferov began to write miniature fairy tales, which he sent for review to Korney Chukovsky.

Gradually changed his pedagogical activity to literary - he worked for "Uchitelskaya Gazeta" for a short time, for the magazine "Murzilka", wrote for the "Literary Gazette". I tried to publish my fairy tales in the Children's Literature publishing house, but they were not accepted. Only in the new, created in 1957, publishing house "Malysh", and with the support of its editor-in-chief, Yuri Pavlovich Timofeev, Tsyferov's fairy tales were published.

Along with writing, he has collaborated with children's radio programs, worked on television, and appeared in libraries. Gennady Tsyferov also worked as a screenwriter in animation, where, in collaboration with the Soyuzmultfilm studio and in collaboration with Genrikh Sapgir, he produced more than two dozen cartoons.

In 1968 he became a member of the Union of Cinematographers. 1971 - was admitted to the Soviet Center UNIMA. Was not a member of the Writers' Union.
