May Robson is an Australian actress best known for her work in films like Granny Take Your Gun, Texas Rangers Back in the Saddle, Raising Babies.

Mary Janette Robison was born on April 19, 1858 in Melbourne and was one of four children of Henry and Julia Robinson. Her father, a British Navy captain, was posted to Australia for health reasons and passed away when Mary was seven years old. After which Julia Robinson moved with her children back to the UK, so Maria was educated in London, Brussels and Paris. At the age of sixteen, Maria first married Charles Gore. The couple acquired a ranch in Texas and then moved to New York, but Charles Gore soon passed away. Without a husband, left with three young children in her arms, Maria worked part-time at home with embroidery, and also gave painting lessons. In addition, by then, she had started her acting career. Mary's two children died at an early age from diphtheria and scarlet fever.

In 1883, Robinson became an actress at the Brooklyn Grand Opera. During the preparation for the first performance on the poster, a mistake was made in the spelling of her name, which was the beginning of the birth of her pseudonym.
