Born April 13, 1967, St. Maria, Jamaica - Jamaican reggae performer and Dancehall artist
In his youth, he received the surname of Capleton, a popular lawyer and family friend in St. Mary. Capleton rejects the name given to him at birth, given his European ancestry. He now prefers "King Shango" given his Yoruba roots. As a teenager, he left his house to get out to the dance floor, where discos took place. He eventually left St. Mary's and went to Kingston at the age of 18 to work as a dance floor DJ. In 1989, he received his first major international recognition. Stuart Brown, the owner of Toronto-based sound called him African Star, gave him an assignment to fly to Canada to perform on shows alongside the likes of Ninjaman and Flourgan.
He recorded a song that featured prominently in Dancehall, "Alms House" in 1992. The tune became a big hit in the dance industry, followed immediately by "Music is a Mission" and the hit "Tour". By 1993, he was voicing tunes that were becoming increasingly conscious, such as "Prophet" and "Cold Blooded Murderer" .
Melodies such as "Tour" and "Wings of the Morning" gave him the opportunity to deal with the Recordings Russell Simmons Def Jam, which culminated with the albums Prophecy and I-Testament in the 1990s. In 1999, Capleton headlined the Reggae Sumfest dance night. This led to further headlining the following year. In the period 1999-2000 he released a series of hits, many of which can be found in the album "More Fire" .
In 2004, after controversy and reasoning, Capleton released one of his most famous tracks "Small World" (That Day Will Come) .
After a hiatus, Capleton returned to VP Records in 2010 with the release of I-Ternal's album Fire.
After headlining the US tour with Romain Virgo, Munga Honorable, and Kulcha Knox in fall 2010, Capleton embarked on a tour of the African continent in late 2010 and early 2011. He has visited Gambia, Senegal, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
