Born February 28, 1948 in Carslisle, England, but until the age of 8 he lived in Nairobi, Kenya. In his youth, Figgis attended music school and played in Brian Ferry's band. In the 1970s, Figgis was a musician in The People Show of the British Experimental Theater. Figgis' work as director of the television movie "Home" attracted the attention of producer David Puttnam, who invited him to write the script. As a result, in 1988, Figgis's first feature film, Thunderous Monday, was released, which became his film debut. The release of the picture helped Figgis get an invitation to Hollywood, where he shot the thriller "An Investigation of the Interior" with Richard Gere. The next films were Libestraum (1991), Mr. Jones (1993), also starring Richard Gere, and Browning's Version (1994).
