Born May 20, 1894 - August 10, 1988 - American journalist, novelist, and screenwriter.
She got her first job in 1912 while working as a newspaper correspondent. After seeing her work at the San Francisco Examiner, James R. Quirk offered her a job at the new Photoplay magazine. St. John's took the job so she could spend more time with her husband and children. Her celebrity interviews helped make the magazine popular, and she has earned a reputation as a "tearful sister" for her many candid interviews with Hollywood stars. In the mid-1930s, she moved to Washington, D.C. to write about national politics for the Washington Herald. In 1948 St. John's quit her job again to write books. On April 22, 1970, Adela St. John's was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
