Born in Kolkata, India - Indian Carnatic Singer Jayashri Ramnat.
Known worldwide as Bombay Jayashri (Bombay S. Jayashri), she is a student of violin maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman. She was born in Calcutta to a family of musicologists and musicians. Jayashri began studying and mastering the basics of carnatic music under the guidance of her parents Sita and N.N. Subramaniam (Seetha and NN Subramaniam). She gave her first concert in 1982. During her long and successful career, Jayashri has extensive experience in concert tours throughout India and in more than twenty countries around the world. Her search for genre interaction between different forms of music has led her to collaborate with many outstanding performers from around the world, among which are collaborations with Egyptian vocalist Hisham Abbas, Senegalese singer Thione Seck and the Finnish Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2012, Jayashri had a rare opportunity to work with Canadian composer Mychael Danna and Oscar-winning director Ang Lee on the soundtrack for the movie Life of Pi. The song "Pi's Lullaby", sung by Bombay Jayashri in Tamil, was nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Original Song".
