Born July 29, 1959, Bombay, India - Indian actor, starring in Hindi films. The first time Sanjay married in 1986, Richa Sharma, they had a daughter, Trishala. Richa died in 1996 of a brain tumor, her parents made sure that custody of her granddaughter was transferred to them, and not to her father. In 1998, Dutt married model Ray Pillai, and in 2005 they divorced. On February 11, 2008, Sanjay Dutt married Dilnavaz Sheikh, better known as Manyata. On October 21, 2010, the spouses became the parents of twins: the boy Shahran and the girl Ikra. While filming Vengeance (1993) on location in Mauritius, Sanjay was accused of illegal possession of weapons (an AK-47 assault rifle and a pistol) that he had acquired from Abu Salem, a terrorist believed to be one of the organizers of the 1993 bombing series in Bombay. As soon as the plane with the film crew landed at Sahar Airport, Sanjay was arrested by the police. The actor assured that the weapon was bought by him for protection purposes. The court reviewed the case several times, which initially allowed Sanjay to return to the studio and continue to work in films. But in 2005, the court still found him guilty and sentenced him to six years in prison. In 2007, after serving 18 months in prison, he was released on bail.
In March 2013, the Indian Supreme Court revised Sanjay Dutt's sentence and reduced his sentence to five years, but ruled that the actor must return to prison within a month to serve the remainder of his sentence (three and a half years). The news of Sanjay Dutt's likely return to prison sparked a public movement both for his pardon and against it.
