Myers' parents are from Liverpool, England, in addition to Canadian citizenship, Myers also has British citizenship. He is of English, Scottish and Irish ethnicity.
At the age of nine, Myers first appeared in a television commercial. In 1982, he graduated from high school (Stephen Leacock High School) and got a job in a comedy troupe in Toronto. In the early 1980s, Myers appeared frequently in various roles (including the role of Wayne Campbell) on Toronto City TV in the alternative video show, City Limits. In 1985 he was one of the leading actors at the London Comedy Store. The following year, he appeared on the British children's television show Wide Awake Club, parodying the show with his own Sound Asleep Club .
Myers was a well-known contributor to the NBC television show Saturday Night Live from 1989 to 1995. In 1992, his character Wayne Campbell appeared on the big screen in the feature film Wayne's World, which became one of the most successful films of the year. A less successful sequel followed the following year.
