Born March 28, 1933 in Moscow.
Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1974). People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2004) Director, screenwriter, actor, producer. Graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Moscow Institute of Architecture. Kuibyshev (1955), worked as a graphic cartoonist in humorous and literary and art magazines.
In 1960 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK (workshop of M.I.Romm) .
He made his directorial debut with the film "My Friend Kolka". But the real popularity was brought to him by the film "They Call, Open the Door", which raised the difficult questions of teenagers entering life. In this film, while still a schoolgirl, Elena Proklova, who later became the star of the domestic cinema, played the main role with great success. The "pioneer theme", hackneyed in youth cinema, in Mitta's film sounded in a new way - vitally and effortlessly. The film was awarded the main prize at the Venice International Film Festival (1966). The next film "Dot, dot, comma" was also devoted to teenagers. As in the debut film, the director's skill in working with young performers, the ability to psychologically subtle characterization, was manifested here. In an effort to expand the genre framework, Mitta turned to the Western genre of "disaster films" adapted to Soviet reality. This experience turned out to be successful. The film "Crew" was watched by millions of spectators. In 1983 he directed the landmark film "The Tale of Wanderings" with Andrei Mironov in the title role. In the post-perestroika period, unlike other directors, he worked intensively. His most famous film of the post-perestroika era is the multi-part film “Border. Taiga novel ". Mitta also starred as an actor in Khutsiev's films "I am twenty years old" ("Ilyich's Outpost") and "July rain".
