February 19, 1929 Lyon, France - August 9, 2003 Boulogne-Billancourt, France.
Initially, Jacques dreamed of becoming an economist, but at the age of 19 he enrolled in Rene Simon's acting classes and after a year and a half he played several roles in theater and cinema. In 1952, Jacques Dere decided to stand on the other side of the movie camera and became an assistant director. After several years of work with such prominent directors as Gilles Grangier, Luis Bunuel, Jules Dassin, in 1960 he made his directorial debut with the film "Gigolo", directed by his own script. Jacques Dere gained fame as a director of "police cinema", giving preference to the detective-crime genre. Among his best films - "Swimming Pool" (1969), "A Little Sun in Cold Water" (1971), "Butterfly on the Shoulder" (1978). The director collaborated a lot with Alain Delon ("Borsalino", "Hush, bass", "Three must be removed"), Jean-Paul Belmondo ("Lonely", "Outlaw"), he also worked with prominent French actors Jean-Claude Briali , Jean Rochefort, Lino Ventura, Romy Schneider, Michel Cerro, Michel Piccoli, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Charlotte Rampling, Nastassja Kinsky.
Jacques Dere is the President of the French Film Directors Society.
