Born April 30, 1949, Kelanya, Sri Lanka, full name: Vanniarachchige Malani Senehelata Fonseca is a Sri Lankan actress and producer.

Shortly after her birth, the family moved to another suburb, Nugegoda, where she studied until fifth grade at St. John's College and graduated from secondary education after another move at Gurukula Maha Vidyalaya School in Vedamulla.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Fonseca took up dramatic art, starring for the first time in Noratha Ratha in 1963, starring in 14 drama productions during her career, and winning the 1968 National Award for her role in Akal Wessa.

In the same years, Fonseca first appeared in extras filming, making a full-fledged film debut in 1968 in the film "Punchi Baba". Her roles in TV dramas Pitagamkarayo and Kemmura earned her the Sumathi Awards in the category "Best TV drama actress."

In 1984, Fonseca first tried her hand at directing and producing, directing the film Sasara Chetana, and subsequently filming two more films Ahinsa (1987) and Sthree (1991).

In April 2010, she was elected to the 14th Parliament of Sri Lanka on the party list of the United People's Alliance for Freedom. Fonseca has also participated in the development and promotion of a number of legislative acts related to constitutional amendments, public and charitable organizations, television, gambling regulation, financial and tax system of Sri Lanka and other parties to Sri Lankan politics. She was a deputy until the end of June 2015, with a two-week self-resignation in the fall of 2012. She did not enter the parliament of the 15th convocation.

Malini Fonseca has won a number of local and several international film awards.
