Tolya Bavykin is one of the most famous black Soviet boys, a young actor who lived a fast life and the main star of the film Maksimka. Tolya is an Arkhangelsk schoolboy, the son of a simple housewife and a black officer of the Northern Navy. It was thanks to such an exotic union of parents that a wonderful boy was born. Tolik never saw his father, but later learned from his mother that he had died when their ship was sunk by a German submarine.
In 1952, the film actor Nikolai Kryuchkov and the scriptwriter Grigory Koltunov came to Arkhangelsk, they organized a meeting in the city at the Sailors' Club. Then they noticed an energetic and lively dark-skinned boy. A month later, without any tests, Tolya Bavykin was approved for the main role of their future film Maksimka. The shooting took place in warm Odessa, and the young debutant was accompanied by such famous actors as Nikolai Kryuchkov, Mark Bernes, Mikhail Pugovkin.
The film with Tolya Bavykin in the title role quickly gained popularity, but the actor's head did not turn, his character remained unchanged, he continued to attend school and play naughty from time to time. And the entire film crew of Maksimka fell in love with Tolya as their son.
The story of Maximka, a Negro man rescued by Russian sailors, is the first and last film with Tolya Bavykin. This is because the actor died tragically at the age of only 15. Skating in winter, Tolik caught on to the truck, but could not resist and fell at great speed, hitting his head. The stroke caused dropsy of the brain, which was the cause of death. But for more than half a century, Maksimka has made the viewer sob and feel with all his heart the touching of real friendship, the value of human relations.
