He studied at the art-industrial vocational school in Kiev. In 1937 he graduated from the camera department of the Kiev Film Institute. In 1936-1982 at the Kiev studio of feature films. In 1941-1944 he worked at a film studio in Ashgabat. In 1958 he began directing.
