VGIK Savchenko graduated in 1953. Anatoly Mikhailovich called his teacher Anatoly Panteleimonovich Sazonov, a famous cartoonist and book illustrator who taught at VGIK at that time. After graduating from the institute, Anatoly Mikhailovich was assigned to work at Soyuzmultfilm, where he worked as a production designer for 37 years, until his retirement in 1990. The first cartoon, in the creation of which an aspiring animator took part, was "Forest Concert", to work on which he was invited by Ivan Petrovich Ivanov-Vano. In the company with him a year later, Savchenko worked on "Moidodyr", after which he went to the group of Evgeny Raikovsky and Boris Stepantsev. Together with the director Boris Stepantsev, Anatoly Mikhailovich Savchenko created a large number of his cartoons. Among the works of the tandem - "Peter and Little Red Riding Hood", "Vovka in the Far Away Kingdom", "Carlson", "The Nutcracker". In total, Savchenko's track record includes about 25 cartoons. The last work of Anatoly Mikhailovich was the cartoon "Courage of the parrot Kesha", created by him together with Elizaveta Zharova after a 20-year hiatus.
