June 30, 1924, Novocherkassk - August 18, 2011, Moscow - Soviet and Russian animator and illustrator of children's books. From the age of 17 he took part in the Great Patriotic War in the infantry troops, in battles in the North Caucasus he was wounded in the leg. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War and a number of medals. Demobilized in 1947. Almost immediately after demobilization, Anatoly Mikhailovich left for Moscow and on the first attempt entered VGIK, having received the highest possible marks for drawing, painting, and composition. VGIK Savchenko graduated in 1953. Anatoly Mikhailovich called his teacher Anatoly Panteleimonovich Sazonov, a famous cartoonist and book illustrator who taught at VGIK at that time. After graduating from the institute, Anatoly Mikhailovich was assigned to work at Soyuzmultfilm, where he worked as a production designer for 37 years, until his retirement in 1990. The first cartoon, in the creation of which an aspiring animator took part, was "Forest Concert", to work on which he was invited by Ivan Petrovich Ivanov-Vano. In the company with him a year later, Savchenko worked on "Moidodyr", after which he went to the group of Evgeny Raikovsky and Boris Stepantsev. Together with the director Boris Stepantsev, Anatoly Mikhailovich Savchenko created a large number of his cartoons. Among the works of the tandem - "Peter and Little Red Riding Hood", "Vovka in the Far Away Kingdom", "Carlson", "The Nutcracker". In total, Savchenko's track record includes about 25 cartoons. The last work of Anatoly Mikhailovich was the cartoon "Courage of the parrot Kesha", created by him together with Elizaveta Zharova after a 20-year hiatus. Many people who worked with him at different times spoke well of Savchenko. Despite the success of the cartoons he created, Anatoly Mikhailovich did not receive any state awards or prizes in his career, except for a congratulatory telegram from Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 30, 2004, and at the same time - Nikita Mikhalkov's telegram from the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.
