The musicians skillfully combined elements of hip-hop and hard rock, developing their own distinctive musical style. But, above all, the group stood out for its active socio-political position, defending ultra-left views in their work. The musicians' public statements, their performances at concerts and the lyrics of the songs contained strong criticism of American capitalism, imperialism, wars and globalization. During the performances, the band repeatedly burned the US flag. In addition, the team actively supported the ideas of such controversial personalities as Leonard Peltier, Mumia Abu-Jamal and Abimael Guzman.

The first performance of the musicians took place at a party at a friend's house, Commerford. They soon recorded a twelve-track demo tape. At that time, the guys did not have a single contract, but at the same time they managed to form a numerous fan club around themselves. Thanks to the fans, the musicians were able to sell five thousand copies of the demo, which they replicated at their own expense. Subsequently, the label Epic Records became interested in the activities of the collective. So the band members received their first contract, and they achieved complete creative independence from the producers.

The band's first LP of the same name appeared in 1992. It was certified platinum three times. After the release of the album, the band took part in the Lollapalooza festival. The musicians performed with their mouths sealed and completely naked. It was a kind of protest against state censorship.

The next two albums Evil Empire and The Battle of Los Angeles were released in 1996 and 1999 respectively. Songs from these records at one time topped the Billboard charts. The next LP, Renegades, was composed entirely of cover versions. Because of his concept, disagreements began among the team members. Over time, the growing conflict led to the collapse of the group. The members later reunited for several years and then separated again.
