Actor, director, teacher.
Was born in Petrozavodsk. In 1973 he graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Kharkov University, worked as a nuclear physicist at the Institute of High Energy Physics in Protvino, Moscow Region, where he created an amateur theater "Green Goose" (1973-1979). In parallel, he studied at the directing department of the Shchukin Theater School. I entered (but did not study) at LGITMiK on the course of G.A. Tovstonogov. In 1982 he graduated from the directing department of the acting department of the Moscow Art Theater School (course of O. N. Efremov). He became known after the staging of the Emigrants S. Mrozhek, according to the author, the best stage interpretation of his play.
In 1983-1986 he was an actor at the Moscow Art Theater. Among the roles: Khlestakov (Inspector N. Gogol), Hetman (Days of Turbins M. Bulgakov), Bread (Blue Bird M. Meterlinka). In 1983-1989 the director of the Moscow Art Theater (Bench A. Gelman, jointly with Efremov, 1984).
