She spent her teenage years in New York. She began her career in 1996 with a leading role in a television series. In 1997, she made her big screen debut in Yoshimitsu Morita's "Paradise Lost". Her performance, which received rave reviews from the press, received an Academy Award from Japan.
She starred in the films: "Killer-imitator", "Like an Asura", "Got Off the Ship on My Island" and "The Samurai I Loved." She played in many popular TV series, on stage and in commercials. In 2006, she performed roles in the films "The Hardest Night" and "Sakuran".
