In 1963 he graduated from the acting faculty of the VTU im. Schepkin (course of N.A. Annenkov).
In 1971 he graduated from VTU im. Shchukin (director's group, course leader M.R.Ter-Zakharova).
Worked as an actor and director at the Irkutsk Drama Theater, Ryazan Drama Theater, Tula Drama Theater. Gorky, Chelyabinsk Drama Theater. Zwilling, at the Maly Theater, the Moscow Literary and Drama Theater of the WTO.
Taught acting at the Theater Institute. Shchukin and RATI-GITIS (associate professor).
The wife is an artist of the State Academic Maly Theater Lyudmila Suvorkina.
Sons - artist Kirill Danelia (1968), economist Nikita Gubanov (1976).
He was buried in Moscow at the Alekseevsky cemetery.
