Soviet singer, theater director and actor Vladimir Kandelaki was born in Tiflis (now Tbilisi) in 1908. At the age of 20 he graduated from the local conservatory, and by the age of 25 he graduated from the Institute of Theater Arts.

In 1929 Kandelaki became the leading baritone of the Moscow Musical Theater. He performed successfully on the stage. In 1954 he was appointed chief director of the Moscow Operetta Theater.

Vladimir's directorial debut took place back in 1943 at the Tbilisi Theater. Then Kandelaki staged the operetta Pericoll by the French composer Offenbach. Later, Vladimir directed a large number of performances in theaters in Tashkent, Alma-Ata, Dnepropetrovsk, Khabarovsk, Petrozavodsk, Krasnodar, Kharkov and Saransk.

One of the most significant creative achievements of Kandelaki was the Jazz Goal - a vocal ensemble organized by Vladimir. His debut performance took place in May 1933. The show was a fantastic success.

For the next 10 years, the ensemble won the hearts of listeners with a-drop singing. Each performance caused a real flurry of emotions. Kandelaki was not just the formal leader of the ensemble, but was the director of each number. Among the participants were: Ivan Dobrolyubov, Dmitry Kamernitsky, Zakhar Efros, Alexander Khudozhnikov, Sergey Tsenin, Vladimir Bunchikov and Georgy Doinikov. With the help of vocals, the artists imitated the sound of a number of musical instruments: violin, ukulele, saxophone, double bass, trumpet, etc.

The artist's activities were not limited to the stage, sometimes he also visited the set. The first film with Vladimir Kandelaki was released in 1936. It was a painting by Grigory Alexandrov called Circus. In it, Vladimir got a tiny role.
