Yu Nan - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actress.

Born September 5, 1978, Dalian, Liaoning, China - Chinese actress.

Her name literally means "man", "son", and as the actress herself admitted in the future, by her nature she always looked more like a guy than a girl.

In 1995, after graduating from high school in Dalian, young Yu Nan intended to enroll in a foreign language institute, but since the Beijing Film Academy was recruiting students for the first time in Dalian that year, this dramatically influenced the girl's choice. According to the recollections of classmates and teachers, Yu Nan was an atypical student: on the one hand, she rarely left the walls of the university, communicated ineptly and generally gave the impression of an obedient girl, on the other hand, if, in her opinion, the teacher was carelessly conducting the lesson, she could defiantly get up and leave the audience. The actress herself admitted that she was not a good student and often skipped classes, preferring them to watch films, in particular French and Italian.

In 1999, an aspiring director Wang Quan'an arrived at the Beijing Film Academy, and at the time was looking for an actress to play the lead role in his debut film Lunar Eclipse. After meeting Yu Nan, he invited her to audition, and later approved her as the leading actress. The film won the FIPRESCI prize at the 2000 Moscow International Film Festival, and the relationship between the young director and the aspiring actress went beyond the set. Subsequently, Yu Nan invariably played the leading roles in all of Wang Quanan's films (Ermei Story (2004) - Golden Rooster Award for Best Actress; Tui's Wedding (2006) - Golden Bear at the 2007 Berlin Film Festival, "The Weaver Girl" (2009) - FIPRESCI Prize). The Weaver Girl (2009) was Yu and Wang's last collaboration, and they parted ways that same year.
In 2010, Yu Nan joined the jury of the Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2012, the action movie "The Expendables 2" was released, where Yu Nan played a heroine named Maggie, who became the first woman in a purely male squad of "The Expendables".
