Born January 1, 1965, Decatur, Georgia, USA is an American actress and producer.

Lisa's father, Walter Grady Roberts (1933-1977), was a water mattress salesman and an actor and writer at the same time. Julia's mother, Betty Lou Bredemas, was a parish clerk and actress, born in Minneapolis in 1934. The father owned a small children's acting school in Decatur, Georgia, attended by the children of Martin Luther King.

In 1971, her mother, Betty Lou Roberts, filed for divorce and in 1972 remarried theater critic Michael Moats. After the divorce, the mother and children moved to Smyrna, Georgia. The marriage of Julia and Michael's mother gave birth to a daughter, Nancy Moates, who died on February 9, 2014 in Los Angeles as a result of a drug overdose at the age of 37. Betty Lou's marriage to Moats broke up in 1983. Later, Betty called this marriage "a big mistake": her stepfather used physical violence against Betty's children.

Lisa's father also remarried Eileen Sellars in 1974. The stepmother was able to build a good relationship with Walter's children from her first marriage, but she died suddenly in September 1977 from an accident. Walter himself survived Eileen by only a few months, died in December of that year from stomach cancer.
