Roman Viktyuk, a scandalous theater director of Ukrainian origin and a phenomenal personality in the history of Russian culture, entered the stage of this world on October 28, 1936 in the Polish (and now Ukrainian) city of Lvov.

In 1956, exactly after graduating from the acting department of Moscow GITIS, his career began in Lviv, Vilnius and Kiev theaters. Since 1970, for more than four years, he has been working as a leading director of the Russian Drama Theater in Lithuania. Having staged there more than eight significant plays by Russian and foreign playwrights, later on he often acts as a director at the invitation of the theater ("The Master and Margarita" after Bulgakov, "Music Lessons" by Petrushevskaya). At this time, he was already conquering the stage of the capital's theaters: the Moscow City Council, the Moscow Art Theater and the theater at Moscow State University, among which the first forbidden performances appeared, so characteristic of the temperament and life position of Roman Grigorievich.

Real and lasting fame comes to him with the staging of the cult play "The Handmaid" by Jean Genet in 1988. The play is still shown in theaters and is sold out over and over again, wherever it is staged. Two years later, the production of M. Butterfly ”opens the Viktyuk Theater in Moscow, which has gathered under its arches the most extraordinary and innovative talents of the world theater. Fragments of the life and work of this creative group can be seen if you watch "Butterfly" by Alexei Uchitel (1993). The filmography of Roman Viktyuk is rather limited and makes do with episodic roles or chronicles, when the number of performances totals more than fifty, continuing to appear today.

Roman Viktyuk has brown eyes, naturally dark hair color, fair skin and thin lips. The shape of the face is round, the forehead is medium, the hair is straight, soft. Roman Viktyuk changes his hair color, giving preference to light brown. The director has a medium straight nose and a rounded chin. Roman Viktyuk wears glasses.
