Born August 23, 1963 in Seoul. Park's passion for cinema was discovered when he was still a student at Sogan University, where he founded a club, tentatively called the Film Lovers Gang. After graduating from university and earning a degree in philosophy, Park set out to make films that were better than most films then produced in Korea. He has also published several critical articles on cinema.
Park's first film, set in the city of Busan, is called Moon - Sun's Dream (1992). This is a gangster movie about two stepbrothers who lead very different lifestyles. The film "Three accomplices" (1997) is a comedy about an unlucky trio hiding from justice. However, it was Park's third film, United Security Zone, that brought the director the greatest fame, elevating him to the rank of the most popular directors in Korea. The film has won nearly every Korean Film Awards including Blue Dragon for Best Picture and Best Director .
In February 2011, Park Chang Wook presented the short film Night Fishing (Life Full of Ups and Downs), filmed together with his brother, media artist Park Chang-kyon, to a sold-out show at the Berlin Film Festival. The peculiarity of the film, which has a budget of 140 thousand dollars, is that it was completely shot on the iPhone 4G.
