Born April 1, 1954, Daegu, South Korea is a Korean screenwriter, producer, director and writer.

Studied Korean Literature at Gyeongbuk National University. In 1983 he wrote his first novel, Cholly. In 1993, according to his script, Park Kwansu's film "To the Star Island" was released, and in 1995, a film by the same director, "One Spark". After that, he begins to direct himself independently. In 2002, Lee Chang Dong's film "Oasis" entered the competition program of the Venice Film Festival, where it received several prizes (the FIPRESCI Prize, the SIGNIS Prize and a Special Director's Award). From 2003 to 2004, Lee Chang Dong served as the Minister of Culture and Tourism of South Korea. The director's next film, Secret Lights, is selected for the 2007 Cannes Film Festival competition, where it receives the Best Actress Award (actress Jung Doyeon). In 2010, Lee Chang Dong's fifth film, Poetry, entered the main competition at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, where he won the Best Screenplay prize.
