Moby - by passport Richard Hall is an American DJ, musician-multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer and actor. Born in New York in 1965, raised in Darien, Connecticut. At the age of two, due to a car accident, Richard lost his father, so he was raised by his mother, who from childhood encouraged her son's love for art. From the age of nine, Hall learned to play the guitar and piano. As a teenager, he played guitar in several punk bands: The Vatican Commandos, Flipper and Ultra Vivid Scene.

In the late eighties, Hall returned to New York. At that time, house culture was gaining popularity in the metropolis. In local clubs, he mastered the craft of a DJ, creating author's electronic material. From 1990 to 1991, Moby released several of his first singles on the Instinct label. Hall took his pseudonym from the adventure novel Moby Dick, written by his distant relative Herman Melville.

The single Go, composed by Richard in 1991 based on samples from the Twin Peaks series, entered the top ten of the UK charts. Following his success, Hall has been remixing popular artists such as Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode, Brian Eno, Pet Shop Boys, Orbital, The B-52s and others.

In 1992, the artist released his debut full-length album called Moby. A year later, Richard's single I Feel It / Thousand became the fastest track and even hit the Guinness Book of Records.
