Born July 19, 1959, Buenos Aires, Argentina - Argentine director, screenwriter, producer and actor.
After leaving school, he entered the university, where he studied for 4 years in one of the technical specialties. According to the director's own recollections, on the day of filing an application for the fifth, last year of study, he watched Bob Foss's film All This Jazz, impressed by which he permanently abandoned his career as an engineer.
His first directing experience was the 1979 short film National Priority.
The next year he left for the USA and entered the School of Art at New York University. After graduation, he was repeatedly invited to shoot films in America. He also worked a lot for television.
In 2006, by a special decree of King Juan Carlos I, the director was granted Spanish citizenship (by naturalization) for merit.
His 2009 film Mystery in His Eyes won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and is ranked 161 on IMDb's 250 Most Popular Films.
