Born in Templin, trained as a medical technologist in Stuttgart. Then she fell in love with the theater, and went to Munich, where she took acting lessons with Ernst Fritz Ferbringer. In 1967 she got her first role at the theater in Kassel.
Angela Winkler lived with the sculptor Wiagant Wittig and has four children.
