Born April 1, 1965 in the city of Liding, Sweden in the family of the famous Swedish comedian Hans Alfredson and his wife Elsa. Alfredson's career began at AB Svensk Filmindustri, where he worked as an assistant director. In 1995, Alfredson shoots his first Swedish-language film, Bert: The Last Virgin, which is not very popular. After reading the novel Let Me In, written in 2004, Alfredson decides to film the bestseller. The film is released worldwide on January 26, 2008 and immediately becomes a hit. The film wins the main Dragon Award at the Gothenburg Film Festival. Thereafter, the film won four Golden Beetles, including an award for Best Director. After finishing work on Let Me In, Alfredson expressed his desire to film the detective story of the British writer John Le Carre "Spy, Get Out!" The director began work in July 2009, inviting such famous actors as Gary Oldman and Colin Firth for the leading roles. The film was released worldwide on September 16, 2011.
Thomas Alfredson was married to the Administrative Director of the Swedish Film Institute, Sissi Elvin. They have two children - a son Lars and a daughter Kerstin.
Alfredson currently lives in Stockholm.
