Jonathan Reese Myers - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actor, Producer.

Born July 27, 1977, Dublin, Ireland - Irish film actor.

The future actor's childhood is accompanied by constant escapes from home and expulsion from school, from where he is finally kicked out at the age of sixteen. Soon after this momentous event, Jonathan is invited to the first audition for the "Button War" project, but he fails to get the role. But already the next casting ends successfully, and Jonathan takes part in the filming of a television commercial, and after a while his film debut takes place - a tiny role in the film "Love without a Name" (1994). Having started acting, the actor takes on the pseudonym Rhys-Myers in honor of his mother.

In 1995, The Disappearance of Finbar started, in which Jonathan Rhys Myers got the title role. A significant part of the filming takes place in Lapland, the untimely beginning of the thaw forces the filmmakers to postpone work on it for six months. During these six months, Rhys Myers manages to play in two tapes. In the historical drama Michael Collins by renowned Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan, he plays a young assassin. In his notes about the meeting with the eighteen-year-old actor, Jordan notes his external resemblance to the young Tom Cruise and, most importantly, his undoubted talent. Then Rhys-Myers goes to Madrid to participate in the comedy horror "Killer Tongue", from this picture he has not the most pleasant memories - for eight weeks of filming, he does not leave a feeling of loneliness. Finally, Rhys Myers is summoned back to Ireland to complete The Disappearance of Finbar, and the long-suffering film is released in November 1996. Until the end of 1996, Rhys Myers still manages to visit Morocco and star in the role of young Samson in two scenes for the TV movie "Samson and Delilah" based on the famous Old Testament story.

Jonathan Rhys Myers is best known for his role as glam rock star Brian Slade in Todd Haynes' drama Velvet Goldmine (1998). Rhys-Myers is based on the image of David Bowie. The role of the bisexual Slade, whose mysterious death is being investigated by a journalist (played by Christian Bale), brings a certain degree of scandalousness to the actor's image: his very relaxed manner of acting in the most explicit scenes (with the participation of Ewan McGregor) adds many fans to Rhys Myers and a nomination as the best British newcomer in the cinema from the British Guild of Film Critics.

Following this breakthrough role, Rhys Myers has been involved with varying degrees of success in several film and television productions, among which Ang Lee's Chase with the Devil becomes the most notable. Additional popularity to the actor is brought by shooting in the best comedy of Great Britain in 2002 "Play Like Beckham", after which Rhys Myers starred in two striking TV shows: the first - "The Lion in Winter", filmed for American television by Andrei Konchalovsky, is awarded with Emmy and Golden globe". Rhys Myers plays the young King of France Philippe. The second is the mini-series Elvis, in which the actor again finds himself in the role of a rock star. For the performance of Elvis Presley in 2005, Rhys Myers is nominated for an Emmy, and then for a Golden Globe, which eventually won. Besides, Rhys Myers plays a supporting role in Oliver Stone's blockbuster Alexander. The film fails miserably at the box office, poorly received by both critics and the public.

Jonathan Rhys Myers' real fame comes with the release of Woody Allen's 2005 drama Match Point. The film, considered by most critics and the public as a modern interpretation of Dostoevsky and Dreiser (although Woody Allen himself denies any connection with the American tragedy of the latter), is invited to the official program of the 2005 Cannes Film Festival, the picture receives the most rave reviews from critics and collects almost $ 100 million at the worldwide box office. The performers of the main roles Scarlett Johansson and Rhys Myers himself are also honored with separate compliments. The role of Chris Wilton takes the actor to a new level: the latest project for him was participation in the high-budget sequel to the film "Mission Impossible 3".

In 2007, Rhys Myers was engaged in the filming of an independent film called August Rush, directed by Kirsten Sheridan, which after its release was dubbed the modern interpretation of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist. Jonathan plays musician Louis Connolly. He also starred in From Paris with Love with John Travolta.

In 2008, the television series The Tudors began showing the life and reign of King Henry VIII, in which Rhys Myers got the main royal role.

On November 15, 2012 the premiere of the film "Lovers" took place in Russia. Also in the fall of this year, the actor took part in the film "City of Bones" based on the novel by Cassandra Claire, where he played Valentine Morgenstern. In addition, Rhys Myers landed the lead role in the television series Dracula, which was filmed in February 2013 in Budapest.
