She studied directing at the Munich School of Film and Television. During her studies, she published reviews of films in the daily newspaper "Suddeutsche Zeitung". 1973 - 75 studied at the University of the Pacific (Stockton, California, USA) at the Department of Drama and at the New York "New School of Social Research" (New School of Social Research). Doris Dohry's first work as a filmmaker was documentaries, melodramas and family films for TV (since 1976). The popularity of Doris Dohry was brought by the film "Men" (Manner, 1985), which won the second place in the competition of the Guild of German Arthouse Cinemas and was a great success with the audience at the box office. "Men" is a film about non-standard decisions of middle-aged men in search of a new life, as well as about the boundaries of friendship and love. In 1989, Doris Dohry founded her own film production company Kobra Produktions GmbH with her husband Helge Weindler and Thomas Muller. Doris Dohry made her theater debut, staging Mozart in 2001 - "All Women Do, or the School of Lovers" ("Cosi fan tutte") for the Berlin Opera. In 2005 the director staged Verdi's opera "Rigoletto" at the Bavarian State Opera. The production of Rigoletto drew a negative reaction from critics. In 2006, the Director again staged Mozart - "The Imaginary Gardener" (" 2002) participated in the competition program of the Venice Film Festival. In "Sakura Blossom" there is no direct repetition of this plot, but there are a lot of reminiscences, not to mention that the action of the second part of the film takes place in Japan, in Tokyo. A trip to Japan for the main character Rudy, a cancer patient (even if he doesn't know about his fatal disease), turns out to be a way to gain a deeper understanding of the world and find peace and happiness. "Sakura Blossom" (Kirschbluten - Hanami, 2008) took part in the IFF competition in Berlin, in the German Film Academy competition in Valladolid (Spain). The Bavarian Film Awards awarded the lead actor Elmar Wepper the Best Actor award. The German Film Awards also named Elmar Wepper "Best Actor" and awarded the film the "Best Fiction Film" award. The film was recognized as "Best Picture" at the Seattle International Film Festival (USA).
