Born on January 25, 1909 near the village of Medvedkov, Moscow province.
In 1934 he graduated from the Chemistry Department of Moscow University. He performed in the extras of the Theater of the Revolution, studied at the acting studio that opened at the theater (later the Moscow City Theater School, teacher Olga Pyzhova) and was accepted into the troupe of the theater (mid-1930s).
During the war, in the front-line brigade of the theater, he performed couplets, began to confer in the image of an awkward, shy person.
Until 1949, he combined work in the theater and on the stage (in 1946 - a diploma winner of the II All-Union Competition of Variety Artists).
