The youngest of six children, was born on April 18, 1984 in Los Angeles, California, to a family of immigrants from Honduras. Her mother worked as a cleaner for the hotel's HR director. Mother raised America and her siblings, always emphasizing the importance of higher education.
America grew up in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, where she attended George Ellery Hale Middle School and El Camino Real High School. From the moment she got a small role in Shakespeare's play Hamlet at the age of seven, and then, at age 10, a much larger role, the Artful Dodger in Oliver Twist, she knew she wanted to be an actress.
