She grew up in a merchant's family. She has been dancing since childhood. At the age of 12, she sang in her parents' orchestra, where her brother Philip played drums and her sister Corinna played the piano.
She later continued to sing in local nightclubs and bars.
From 1984 to 1992, Foley had a relationship with her art collaborator Andre Manukyana, and from 1996 to 2002 with her manager Laurent W Sauffer. In August 2003 she married businessman Augustine Decre. Zia lived in England from 1996 to 2007. They divorced in 2007 and she went to Paris.
