Otar Ioseliani - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips.
Born on February 2, 1934 in Tiflis (now Tbilisi), Georgian SSR.
Studied at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. In 1965 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK (workshop of A. Dovzhenko). In 1962 Ioseliani directed the short film "April", and in 1964 he shot the documentary "Pig Iron", showing in it one day of the work of a metallurgical plant. Already these films were characterized by an original directorial style, which was clearly manifested in his first full-length film Falling Leaves (1966), which won the FIPRESCI prize and the Georges Sadoul prize for best debut in Cannes. In 1971 the film Lived a Songbird was released, and in 1976 the director staged Pastoral, which won the FIPRESCI prize at the Berlin Festival. Since the early 1980s, Otar Ioseliani has been working in France, where he shot several documentaries and short films: in 1984, the film "Favorites of the Moon", was awarded a Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. The same prize was awarded to two more films by Ioseliani - “And there was light” (1989) and “Robbers. Chapter VII "(1996). In 1999, a film by Otar Ioseliani was released, in which he also played one of the main roles - "Farewell, home!" (in the Russian film distribution called "Truth in Wine").
Member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia. Laureate of the Tsarskoye Selo Art Prize (2001).
