Idir - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips.
Born in Ait Lahcene, a Berber village in Haute-Kabylia. The son of a farmer, Idir began studying geology and was tipped for a career in the oil industry long before his rise to fame. Idir preached the Kabyle culture, in particular the Kabyle music through his voice and guitar. Idir has consistently turned to this status in order to emphasize its belonging to the Amazigh Berber nation. His first album A Vava Inouva came out in 1976 and the song “A Vava Inouva” was translated into seven languages. After Idir's work was noticed, he recorded and released his second album, "Ay Arrac Negh" (To Our Children) (1979).
