Born on September 1, 1949, in the city of Bucharest (Romania).
Graduated from the Institute of Theater and Cinematography in Bucharest in 1972.
She made her debut as an actress of the Cassandra Theater, as Marioara directed by Alexandre Tochilescu. She continued her career at the theater of Mihai Eminescu (Botonashi).
From 1975 she performed at the Youth Theater (Piatra Neamt), and from 1976 to 2003 she was an actress at the Bulandra Theater (Bucharest).
Luminitsa Gheorghiu begins his film career with the role of Katrina in the movie Morometa (1987). However, it was not until 20 years later that international acclaim came to the actress, thanks to Christy Puyu's Death of Mr. Lazarescu, for which she was awarded the Best Supporting Actor award in Los Angeles.
In 1985, when the actress was preparing for the role of Mr. Lazarescu's assistant in the film Death of Mr. Lazarescu, her 6-year-old daughter dies, the loss of which was a real blow. However, thanks to her acting in theater and cinema, Luminita Gheorghiu found the strength to live on.
