Born March 26, 1957, Ghazvin, Iran is an Iranian photographer and film director.
Studied in Tehran at a Catholic school. In 1979 she came to Los Angeles to study art history. The Iranian revolution made her an emigrant; she managed to visit her homeland only in 1990. A series of photographs of the Woman of Allah (1994-1997) brought her world fame. In 2001 she directed the film Passage with Philip Glass. She constantly collaborates with the Iranian composer and vocalist Susan Deyhim.
