Helmut Grasser founded the production company Allegro Film in 1989, which he heads today and with which he previously produced over 60 films.
From 1996 to 2001 he was a member of the selection committee of the Austrian Film Institute. From 2002 to 2006 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Vienna Film Festival Foundation, and since 2002 he has been a member of the European Film Academy. From 1999 to 2005, he was a spokesman for the Association of Austrian Film Producers (AAFP) and then President in 2006.
In 2009, Helmut Grasser joined forces with other Austrian filmmakers from the Austrian Film Academy. On December 7, 2014 he was awarded the Carinthian Culture Prize.
