Known for his many roles in classic horror films, where he is often the partner of Christopher Lee. On the screen, the actors often portrayed antagonists (Frankenstein is his Monster, Van Helsing is Dracula), while in life they were close friends.
Working on the stage, he often stayed at the theater until he signed with the Worthing Repertory Company in 1935.
In 1939, he traveled with his father to Hollywood, where he landed a supporting role in James Weill's Cloak and Sword, The Man in the Iron Mask.
