Born August 24, 1960 in Yao City, Osaka Prefecture (Japan). Graduated from the Yokohama Film and Television Academy. He began working in films under the direction of Shohei Imamura (assisted in the 1989 film Black Rain). Gruvemuvestart
Miike made his big movie debut in 1995 with The Chinese Mafia War.
In 2003, Gozu was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in the official Unusual Regard program as the first film to be released only on video and not for wide distribution.
In 2008, Miike's filmography as a director includes 78 films and television series, in 15 he took part as an actor (mostly episodic roles), in one of his films (Family, 2001) he acted as an operator, wrote scripts for three films.
Miike is known for his creative fertility: he releases several films a year and works in a wide variety of genres: action, musical, TV series, thriller, drama, etc. Quite often he "mixes" several genres in his films.
Participated in the Venice Film Festival, the International Festival in Rotterdam, the Cannes Film Festival.
In 2011, his film "13 Assassins" was nominated for the Asian Film Awards.
