Maria Babanova was born in November 1900 in Moscow. She spent her childhood with her grandmother, who owned several houses in Zamoskvorechye. In April 1922, Meyerhold staged a play called The Magnanimous Cuckold. After its premiere, Maria became famous. Her individual style was formed thanks to Vsevolod Meyerhold.
