At birth, Stevens was given the name Stephen Fisher. In 1987 he joined the Naked Angels theater company with his longtime friend Ned Eisenberg. He is also the owner of GreeneStreet Films, a New York-based film production company. Stevens took part in the recording of Lou Reed's album The Raven.
