Born August 4, 1983 in Sacramento, California, USA is an American actress, screenwriter, director and producer.
Greta graduated from Barnard College in 2006. At the same time, she got a minor role in the low-budget film LOL, after which she attracted critical attention for several years with her work in independent comedy films.
In 2011, Gerwig made her debut in the comedy More Than Sex, which was her first work in independent filmmaking. The most successful project in Gerwig's career was the film Sweet Frances, for her role in which she received praise from critics and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress - Musical or Comedy. In 2014 she was a member of the jury of the 64th Berlin Film Festival.
In 2017, her full-length independent directorial debut, Lady Bird, earned Gerwig Golden Globe and BAFTA Best Screenplay nominations. Also for this film she was nominated for two Oscars in the categories of "Best Director" and "Best Original Screenplay." Became the fifth woman ever to be nominated for an Oscar for directing.
