British band formed in 1979 and competing with Duran Duran for the attention of American and European listeners. At first, they played synth-pop with a touch of funk, but by 1981 they had evolved towards romantic pop music designed for the widest audience (“new romance”). The song "True" (1983), the leader of numerous charts, is recognized as one of the most characteristic and popular compositions of the romantic direction in the music of the 1980s.
