254 BC BC, Sarsina, Umbria - 184 BC e., Rome - an outstanding Roman comedian, master of the palliative. Arriving in Rome, he entered the acting troupe as a minister, then engaged in trade, but unsuccessfully, after which he worked for hire, writing comedies in his free time. Plautus did not have aristocratic patrons - he depended on the mass audience. Plautus has had to travel a lot and meet people from various strata of the Italian population. Slaves play an important role in Plautus's plays, thanks to whom the action often unfolds and is brought to a denouement. Comedies almost always feature a hanger (parasite) and a pimp. Comedies are often based on a love affair, but they all end well for the main character. At the same time, the female roles on stage were performed by men. The language of his works was vernacular, the jokes were often obscene, and the action was full of discouraging antics. Used musical accompaniment.
The only complete (except for fragments) translation of Plautus's comedies into Russian was made by A. V. Artyushkov (1933-1937).
