Born September 18, 1970, in San Francisco, California, the daughter of Robin Gregory, teacher, and photographer Jim Tyler. Has not only African American, but also Indian roots. Her parents divorced when she was 10 and was raised by her father. She showed an early interest in comedy in high school. Graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in political science. Moved to Los Angeles from her native San Francisco in 1996. Her television career began in 2001.
In 1992, Asha married a lawyer, Jeff Tietjens. Tyler and her husband own the brewery.
She is a regular contributor to Glamor magazine.
