The events that followed the October Revolution made the citizens of one country torn away for many years, and even forever. Many emigrated, including artists. Even the name was invented - "Russian theatrical emigration." Among her was Nikolai Massalitinov, an actor who was literally torn from his homeland by the civil war.
According to some sources, he was born in Kharkov, according to others - in the town of Yelets. He spent his childhood and youth in Siberia, more precisely in Tomsk. Nikolai, although he took part in amateur performances, at first nevertheless chose a serious profession for himself and entered the medical profession. But he did not study for long - he was expelled for participation in the manifestation. Then the same thing happened with the Technological Institute. But her sister, an actress of the Maly Theater, advised me to move to her in Moscow and try her hand at acting. So Massalitinov did it. It turned out that he had great talent, since after graduation, the future leading figures of the Moscow Art Theater Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko invited our hero to their troupe.
Nikolai quickly became one of the leading actors. The roles of Nikolai Massalitinov did not leave indifferent the audience who saw them. But troubled times soon came. In 1919, the "Kachalov group", which included Massalitinov, is "cut off" from the capital. Soon the theater comes on tour to Sofia. Following this, he continued to tour European cities, and when it was time to return, part of the team remained. This is how the Prague troupe arose, which included Nikolai. Since 1925 he has lived and worked in Bulgaria.
Here he worked for a long time as the chief director of the People's Theater, became one of the leading figures of the stage, People's Artist of Bulgaria. In total, he has staged about 150 performances. He acted in films. The film with the participation of Nikolai Massalitinov Heroes of Shipka was shown at home. But the actor returned to the Soviet Union, although he kept in touch with his former colleagues, even probed the situation for a return, but it did not work out. On March 22, 1961, at the age of 81, Nikolai Massalitinov died.
