Lacking an acting education, in the early 1970s, Chow attended a TVB audition in the early 1970s, successfully passed them, and soon gained significant popularity, acting in television series. He achieved world fame thanks to his roles in the action films of John Woo: "Bright Future", "Hired Assassin" and "Hard Boiled". He also starred in dramatic films. Helped actor Andy Lau to make a career in television, and then in cinema, together they starred in four films and two television series. Since the late 1990s, Chow has been filming in Hollywood.
