Since 1917 he was an extra at the Petrograd Theater of Musical Drama, the Nezlobin Theater, and the Bolshoi Drama Theater.
After graduating from the School of Russian Drama in 1923, he was admitted to the troupe of the Academic Drama Theater (Theater named after A.S. Pushkin).
